Science and social media

In an Editorial on Feb 10th in Science journal by an American chemist, and entrepreneur, professor H. Holden Thorp the topic of science and scientist in social media was discussed.

He emphasizes that science got boosted in social media as a consequence of the recent pandemic. He analyzes this phenomenon from both good and bad aspects.

“On the positive side, social media can be a good way to collaborate on scientific questions quickly and transparently, and along the way… It’s also a good way for scientists to let off steam when the pressures of hard work and a skeptical public pile up. On the negative side, these wide-open forums allow forces bent on undermining science to cherry-pick the debates.”

In this week’s issue of Science, commentaries about “Science and social media” explore these matters, which have become central to the scientific enterprise.

  1. Very nice topic Mehrdad, it is true, this means that high qualified social media with better scientific contents are needed, then we may invite professor Holden Thorp to World Academies (WAC).

      1. Then try for it, send an invitation, or let me know his contact info to be invited. I thin this can be an important approach on WAC to invite some famous scientists, artists and influencers that care about educational content of the social media pages.
